Having a baby is one of the, if not the most, important event and gift a woman can experience. And as with all things, there is always a price to the joy. With the good comes the bad. Part of the negative is the toll baby birthing can have on your body.
Some women can inexplicably bounce back with no apparent weight gain difficulties, cyclonic hormonal monsoons, or unspeakable skin disorders. For the majority of women, pre- and post-pregnancy is a runaway rollercoaster of changes that's similar to feeling like you're flinging paint into a fan.
These are common and normal battles, and there is a variety of ways to help yourself feel better despite the paint splotches.
Keep doing the things you love. If you love to shop; don't stop shopping. If you love to paint, sans the fan; keep those brushes on the canvas. If you love to garden, play Hearts, go to community gatherings; keep sowing, scoring the sweeps, and participating.
Yes, it can be hard, you may feel exhausted, but you'll keep a firm grasp on sanity. Listening to the details of other people's lives and focusing on something other than diapers helps you keep your baby-laden life in perspective.
Make sure you get mental health time. Most people take some kind of mental health day. Scheduling a day or half day of doing nothing except you feel like helps you shake off the stress, the exhaustion, the worries, and recharges your batteries. Take a sea salt bath with lots of bubbles, dig into a good book, go get a manicure, a massage, or whatever floats your boat.
The main goal is to walk away from your me-time feeling refreshed, recharged, and clear.
