baby wearing

It's about baby wearing

So baby #2 is on her way. 8 weeks left on this trek. A few weeks ago the beginnings of the freak outs started happening. My latest one is that I won't be able to make it to the hospital in time. With my last little guy (four years ago), I had a real freak out when I realized he HAD to come out of me. I mean, I didn't have any choice (rocket science, I know!0 Crazy how those things work out, right?

But my realization this week is that I have something I don't need to worry about: all that extra gear. With my little guy, I went through so many strollers and fretted about the car seat, and made sure I had a bassinet exactly right. I even made bumper pads. What a waste (and a risk!)

This time around, I'm not going to worry! i got rid of my big, bulky stroller that the car seat attaches to. I quickly crossed off the the double-stroller idea (my little boy is probably getting too big anyway) and am so excited to know (at the beginning!) that I can comfortably wear my baby in a sling. I honestly can't wait for the squirms and squiggles to be outside of my stomach (instead of inside!)

So this baby is getting the luxury treatment from the beginning. I'm so glad we can learn from what we've done in the past (and not have to learn EVERYTHING over again!)

3 Reasons To Buy Baby Slings

Why buy baby slings? A simple question with a simple answer. Baby slings provide a million and one (okay, maybe not quite that many) pros without any cons (at least that we can think of).

What is a baby sling? We’ve got a pretty simple answer for that one - you can’t stump us. A baby sling is a type of carrier that lets you carry baby essentially in your arms next to your body while keeping your hands free. Oops. We’re jumping the gun with our list of pros and cons. But since you’ve got the idea, we’ll keep going with the pros.

For starters, how do you like the idea of baby crying less? Can anything make baby cry less? The answer is a definitive yes. And honestly, it makes a lot of sense. When baby is cuddled up in a baby sling close to mom or dad, what in the world could there be to cry about? Oh, right. Maybe being hungry or a messy diaper, but overall, that’s a lot less crying than otherwise.

And speaking of all that being cuddled up close, research has shown physical contact is super important for baby’s development. When babies are first discovering the world and trying to communicate with mom and dad, they do it through touch. A baby sling keeps baby in constant physical communication and helps in that process of discovery and growth.

Everything You Need To Know About Baby Slings

What are baby slings? You’ve got questions. We’ve got answers. If you’ve heard of baby slings,  and want to know more, then you’ve come to the right place.

What is a baby sling?

A baby sling is a unique type of baby carrier made from a simply shaped piece (or pieces) of cloth. It is worn like a big shoulder bag wrapped around the body so your baby is held against your body.

What are the advantages to a baby sling over a different type of carrier?

Many baby carriers currently on the market are bulky and include complex fasteners. The first advantage to baby slings is that they are sleek, simple, and roll up into a neat little ball that can be stored in a diaper bag when you aren’t using them.

Other advantages include that of convenience. Unlike some carriers that convert into strollers, car seats, or  must be hauled around by the handle, baby slings are lightweight and leave your hands free to carry other items such as the diaper bag, or hold onto an older child’s hand while walking across the parking lot. Can you imagine how much easier life will be with both hands available?

Baby slings are also highly versatile. They can be used for a range of ages from newborn to toddler ages. They allow the baby to lie down, sit up, and can be wrapped so that the baby is carried on your front, back, hip, or anywhere in between! This not only helps you distribute weight evenly, but keeps life comfortable for both of you as baby grows.

Getting The Most From Baby Carrier Instructions

When you decide that you want to use a baby carrier, the most important part of getting the most out of it is reading the instructions. Sure, it seems pretty straightforward, simple, and easy to use, but every carrier has its own design and problems.

Many safety concerns about baby carriers have gotten a lot of press in the last couple years. There's been recalls, lawsuits, and all kinds of verbal mayhem going on. Despite the faulty design of some brands, there have also been some concerns about improper usage because wearers aren't reading or following instructions.

It seems like common sense, or that it would be obvious, but the simple fact remains that many people just don't follow instructions. Maybe we're plagued with so many that we've tuned them out. Or maybe we just have a tendency to scan instructions and not pay attention to what it says.

The point is that you won't get the most enjoyment or fulfillment from your baby carrier without instructions. And even more than that, you may be treading in dangerous waters if you miss something important.

Read the instructions - watch videos if they're available - make sure you understand everything about your baby carrier and its instructions.

HugaMonkey has some great videos and baby carrier instructions available. Our baby slings are designed with safety and security at the top of our list. Combine that with ease of use and comfortable fabrics and you have one great carrier!

Plan Your Summer with a HugaMonkey Baby Carrier

It's snowing.  Blah.  But on a recent walk around the neighborhood I saw irises starting to poke their pointy little leaves through the soil, and our shrub oak have tiny fuzzy buds just beginning to peep out.  There is hope!  I am itching for spring and summer.  It has my mind racing over all over the places I want to go, things I want to do, and people I want to see.

Of course, I do have a baby coming this summer so my plans have to be altered a little.  Who knows how much bike riding I'll actually get done!  But I'll still have a plenty of time to enjoy the great outdoors, and I'll be taking the little bundle everywhere. So here are a few the things the baby, the sling and I are planning on doing.

1.  SWIMMING!!!!  I cannot wait to go swimming.  I'm so flippin' excited!  It will be absolutely amazing and wonderful while I'm super pregnant all summer.  Hey, I'll look like a whale anyways, right?  After the baby is born, the HugaMonkey carrier is the perfect way to introduce the little one to the water.  Since it's a single layer of fabric, it dries quickly and easily.  It's light weight and I can easily adjust it while I'm in the pool.  And without buckles and straps, the baby can be removed really quickly and handed off to Daddy to quickly towel off and warm up.
