Sanity, Perspicacity, And Patterns For Baby Carrier
Having a baby is one of the, if not the most, important event and gift a woman can experience. And as with all things, there is always a price to the joy. With the good comes the bad. Part of the negative is the toll baby birthing can have on your body.
Some women can inexplicably bounce back with no apparent weight gain difficulties, cyclonic hormonal monsoons, or unspeakable skin disorders. For the majority of women, pre- and post-pregnancy is a runaway rollercoaster of changes that's similar to feeling like you're flinging paint into a fan.
These are common and normal battles, and there is a variety of ways to help yourself feel better despite the paint splotches.
Keep doing the things you love. If you love to shop; don't stop shopping. If you love to paint, sans the fan; keep those brushes on the canvas. If you love to garden, play Hearts, go to community gatherings; keep sowing, scoring the sweeps, and participating.
Yes, it can be hard, you may feel exhausted, but you'll keep a firm grasp on sanity. Listening to the details of other people's lives and focusing on something other than diapers helps you keep your baby-laden life in perspective.
Make sure you get mental health time. Most people take some kind of mental health day. Scheduling a day or half day of doing nothing except you feel like helps you shake off the stress, the exhaustion, the worries, and recharges your batteries. Take a sea salt bath with lots of bubbles, dig into a good book, go get a manicure, a massage, or whatever floats your boat.
The main goal is to walk away from your me-time feeling refreshed, recharged, and clear.
Give yourself some uninterrupted mommy-baby time. Believe it or not, you may not get any real pure one-on-one time with your baby. Between visitors, trying to handle work and house responsibilities, attending to all
of baby's needs, and various other interruptions, you may be with your baby all day and not get any real bonding time.
Those moments of connection and delight are precious. You don't get them every day, and you have to be "present" to embrace them. You'll remind yourself what you did this for, and you'll also create a bond that will last.
Have fun with your baby accessories. Babies need tons of stuff. They don't really care what they look like, at least until the day when they utter, "No". Until then, you may as well treat yourself to fun colors, pictures, prints and patterns for baby carriers, blankets, baby slings, etc.
You may have to fight your body to regain control of everything, but you don't have to abandon your sense of style and fun. You may be floppy and blotchy, but that doesn't mean you can't look good!
This is just a short list of things that will help you keep your sanity and your sense of self. The options for taking care of yourself are as varied as our fingerprints and what we like doing. The point is to make sure you are doing what you love without compromising what makes you, you.
